Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our current price for companion puppies is $2800.

  • By filling out our application you are added to an informal waitlist and will be contacted when a litter of available puppies is born. Anyone still interested at that time will set up a phone call with us and if we decide you are a great fit for one of our puppies you will then be able to reserve a puppy by paying a $300 nonrefundable deposit that will go towards the total purchase price of your puppy.

  • All of our companion puppies are sold on a spay/neuter contract and with limited AKC registration.

If we choose to sell a puppy as a potential breeding prospect they will be co-owned with us until certain criteria has been met, including but not limited to an AKC conformation championship and CHIC-level health testing. Show prospects are generally determined at 8 weeks of age and sold under a different contract and price than companion puppies.

Ideally co-owners would live close enough for in-person mentorship and would be able to attend some of the same shows as us. We’re willing to make exceptions for an experienced show home or to someone with appropriate mentorship in their area on a case-by-case basis.

Our puppies will never be sold to programs producing designer mixed breed “doodles” or intentionally breeding for off-standard traits.

  • While service work isn’t a focus of our program we are willing to work with handlers looking for a service prospect puppy if we think a pairing has potential to produce suitable temperaments. We have two local trainers we know and trust to help us with litter evaluations if needed.

  • Before being bred our dogs complete a final OFA Radiographic Hip Evaluation, a CAER eye exam, an OFA cardiac exam and a breed-specific genetic disease panel that includes Degenerative Myelopathy, Neonatal Encephalopathy, PRA, and Von Willebrands disease.

  • Standard poodles as a breed have several health concerns with unknown or polygenic inheritance patterns that are likely influenced by environmental factors. These include Addisons Disease, Sebaceous Adenitis, Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, epilepsy, and bloat.

Even with careful breeding practices these and other health concerns cannot be definitively screened against. We will always strive to produce healthy dogs and be transparent in our breeding practices, but we also acknowledge the risk inherent in breeding living beings with complex breed history and genetics. Because of this we choose to only guarantee against health concerns with predictive genetic testing.

While we don’t guarantee against hip dysplasia (there are too many environmental factors at play once puppies leave our care) we do OFA and/or PennHip evaluations on all of our dogs and follow best practices for raising puppies with optimal joint health. This includes a whelping box and puppy raising area with high-traction surfaces, proper nutrition, and gentle exercise on varied terrain.

We expect anyone looking to own a standard poodle to due their due diligence in researching the breed and understand potential health risks before bringing a puppy home. This is a great place to start.

  • We wait until at least two years of age before breeding.

  • Our puppies’ tails are docked to an appropriate show length at three days old in accordance with our written breed standard which states that tails are to be “docked of sufficient length to insure a balanced outline.”

We do choose to leave dewclaws intact as up-to-date research seems to show potential risk of developing arthritis in the carpal joints when dewclaws are removed.

  • Our poodles are not only show dogs and breeding dogs, they are also our beloved pets and live with us in our home. Puppies are whelped in a bedroom and transition to their own room when they’re ready for more space.
